Born on the Fourth of July
Yes, I was born on the Fourth of July way back in 1957. No, I am not famous for anything though it is always nice to have so many people celebrating my birthday! It is amazing to reflect on all the things that I have had the privilege to see, hear and do through all the years I have been alive and with a little luck get to see, hear and do in the years to come!
Looking back over the years there is so many things to be thankful for; living in the United States has given us all opportunities that many in the world can only dream. I am not saying everything has been perfect, just reading the newspaper or watching the news tells us that perfection is not here….but one can always dream!
One thing I have always loved about the Fourth of July is time spent with family and friends. Families and friends cross generations and gatherings such as the Fourth of July bring us together to celebrate our Independence Day. As I have gotten older, I have always loved watching the younger children as they hold their first sparklers and run around the yard and the look of wonderment on their faces as the big time fireworks burst in the night sky. The Fourth of July always has lots of food, barbecue, smoking and grilling in one type or another. I have learned from experience never to diet over the holiday there is just too much temptation and I love it!
Let us remember all the good on this Fourth of July and follow the words of Former president Harry S. Truman “America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination.”
